Hello and welcome to a long overdue communique from The Scavenger! Yule and the solstice have passed, Xmas has come and gone, and now the last Full Moon of 2023 has graced us and is waning once more. Though it may have looked like the scavenging ended with the harvest this year, in point of fact it had just gotten started. Year-long plans for the contents of issue 4 were put into motion and I was overjoyed to visit three very special practitioners and feature their work in 𝑺𝒄𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒅 𝑹𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒔 V1N4: 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑹𝒊𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝑶𝒃𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕.

• 𝐀𝐫𝐮̀𝐧 𝐑𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐧 of The Aruniverse has impressed me with his mask and altar crafting since I have known him. His work is always a combination of the inspired, the painstaking, and the deeply esoteric. Issue 4 features gorgeous examples of both.
  
  

• 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐌𝐜𝐂𝐨𝐲, the fiery force responsible for magical blacksmithing outfit Troll Cunning Forge, will need no introduction for many of you. A pleasant afternoon was spent watching him working his magic on metal and discussing what passes for magical fabrication these days.
  
  

• Scavenging led me to Los Angeles in early December to conduct an incredible interview with 𝐊𝐚𝐢 𝐔𝐰𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐭 and photograph those purveyors of amplified history 𝐇𝐞𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐠 during their final appearance North American ritual of 2023. I was truly grateful for this amazing opportunity to find out more about the techniques behind their trance inducing rituals. What a way to close out the year and wrap up issue 4!
  
  

• Finally, The Scavenger has been learning and practicing 3D photography since the summer. You can be the judge of whether or not I’ve gotten the hang of it, since nearly all of this pictorial issue of will be in that format, viewable with the included red/blue glasses.

The dry part of our autumn appears to be well and truly finished here in the Pacific Northwest. Now comes literal months of rain, mostly dark skies, and chilly days that have The Scavenger dragging out the wool socks. Thus begins the best time of year for tucking into some fine reading material (hint hint) situated near a fire with a cup of tea or other agreeable beverage.

We are rapidly approaching Hallowe'en, a much beloved holiday in this part of the world and many others. In the spirit of the season, please allow The Scavenger to gift you the following treat, no trick required!

The last issue of Scavenged Rituals was full to bursting with delicious goodies, so much so that it became necessary to excise a ritual perfectly suited to the upcoming holy-day. Titled "Burning Beyond the Logical Lake," it's for the express purpose of contacting Those Beyond for answers to your burning questions. In the style of a fun, pop-occult ritual from the late 1960s, you'll use a black candle, a d20 die, and a very special music album from Broadcast and The Focus Group to make a connection across the spirit realm and gain a little more insight into the subject of your question.

Scavenged Rituals V1N1 consists of 52 full-color digest-sized pages and contains 9 illuminating articles authored by magical luminaries including M. Isidora Forrest, Daniel Yates, Scott Stenwick, Rev. Erik L. Arneson, an audio ritual from Revel∴Keats Rosz, and much more. 

All issues of Scavenged Rituals include a QR-code linked to a streaming audio ritual. A limited number of initial run issues also include the ritual on phonographic disc. These are 5” embossed PETG discs that contain analog rather than digital audio, meaning you’ll need a turntable in order to play them. The discs are low-fidelity haunted objects that lend significant atmosphere to the audio ritual.
